Det ble likevel en historisk kveld for de norske deltakerne. For første gang var en norsk film nominert innen to kategorier: for beste originalmanus og beste internasjonale film. På forhånd var Belfast og Drive mye car ansett som favoritter, men mange mente at den norske filmen likevel kunne ha en sjanse i førstnevnte kategori.

Dune fikk flest priser, innenfor flere av de mer tekniske kategoriene, mens Coda ble tildelt den gjeveste, for beste film. Kveldens mest forsmådde var kanskje The Power of the dog som på forhånd hadde tolv nominasjoner. En trøst var det at regissøren Jane Campion i det minste fikk prisen for nettopp beste regissør.

Den norske produsenten Sant & Usant hadde også en sjanse til å ta del i en Oscarpris i kategorien beste dokumentar gjennom å være samprodusent på den indiske dokumentaren Writing with fire. Men prisen gikk til Summer of Soul. Også Merfilm sto oppført som norsk samprodusent på den danske filmen Flukt som var nominert innen to kategorier, uten å vinne.

Ellers skulle kvelden handle om andre ting enn film. Will Smith gikk til fysisk angrep på Chris Rock. Og krigshandlingene i Ukraina er noe som også kaster skygger over filmkolonien i Hollywood.
