Bent Hamer, the Norwegian director, is very good at making the mundane seem important and the real seem almost surreal. (…) He has created a memorable character in O’Horten, assisted by Owe’s refusal to overplay beyond the occasional twitch of his moustache. This won the “Silver Lump” as the Best Norwegian Film of its year. But lumpish it certainly isn’t.»
Filmen har også blitt anmeldt i det nyeste nummeret av Sight and Sound: «O’Horten is closest to Kitchen Stories in mood and comic tenor, both films offering a version of Scandinavian humour that is highly exportable on the middelbrow arthouse circuit.»
Times Online: «The episodic structure of Odd’s adventures means that it’s not always the most compelling piece of storytelling. It does, however, have a bittersweet appeal that fans of eccentric Northern European cinema will find hard to resist.»
The Sun er ikke helt fornøyd med filmen. «For those of you who enjoy quirky European cinema, this Norwegian movie will provide a perfectly pleasurable way to spend 90 minutes. (…) But there is barely a story to knit the unfolding events together and this ends up as little more than an entertaining whimsy.»
